Accommodation p2

At the top of the property, an old ruin with whispers of a resident ghost horse, said to appear on moonless nights, is a good starting point to follow the dams all the way down to the Pienaarsriver. From the authentic round farm dam, a small series of breeding dams flow into a quartet of fly fishing dams, all free of water grass and bordered with kikuyu and very few reeds, giving the inexperienced angler a sure fire chance to have some luck.

A bird sanctuary is also situated around these dams where permanently disabled animal residents and wild visitors find respite against a cruel world.

Following the little river, a koi dam, (not fished!) with an infinity drop onto a waterfall has a lovely thatched sitting area with an amazing view over the conservancy reaching Cullinan on the horizon.

At the foot of the waterfall is the Kurper dam, a quiet pool perfect for a picnic. Large trees bordering the waterside provide an opportunity to reflect on, and plan new avenues to enjoy life a little bit more.

Small bridges span the river, offering a shortcut to the next dam, the Bass dam, or, you can stroll alongside the river into the reed bush where the bird hide is an ideal area to observe all the water birds visiting both the Bass and Big dam. For all the lovers and dreamers, swing benches may very well be just the way to while away an hour or two.

The Bass dam is well stocked and a bit more of a challenge, but, not too much for a persistent beginner! The narrow, Leopard Island puts the middle of the dam within easy reach and most hiding spots are easily accessible.

Neighbouring is the Big dam, with Goose Island, reached by a bridge spanning water that reaches four meters deep in places. A canoe is available for easy access to all the water, but, with lawns bordering the whole perimeter, casting is no problem.

A Jetty with a gazebo stretches over the water and is a lovely spot for breakfast, lunch, brunch, sundowners or an intimate candle lit dinner. Lazy hours of sunning on the deck chairs in the serene atmosphere are the perfect way to obtain a golden glow.

The outflow of this dam is a slippery slide into the small Play dam. Fishing here is difficult, but when fish stare right at you, who can possibly resist?

From here, a long trench leads the water to Riné's dam, about three quarters of the way to the Pienaarsriver. This final long, narrow dam is currently being stocked.

Down by the river bank ,a cleared area provides access to the water's edge which is 6 metres deep at this point, Here Yellow fish, Carp, Kurper, Bass, Yellow fish, Macarel, Eel, Barbel and more are waiting to outwit you. Come heavily armed… No swimming please, we have resident crocodiles!

At nightfall the calls of the Jackals will remind you of all the nightlife stirring, from bats to birds and owls to moths, all fill the sky, incredibly incandescent with twinkling stars.

Stargazing here is perfect as light pollution is limited. Bring your binoculars and telescope or visit our specially organised sky watch evenings where, with a motorised 8" telescope, you can almost touch the moon...

Sitting around a roaring fire is a must and can be done on your patio or in the well equipped traditional boma with a huge fireplace, serving table and power point. The whole area can be well lit if desired. Down at the Big dam, another more rustic braai area close to the water is a perfect daytime fireplace if you don't want to leave the waterside to prepare a meal.

The small conference room caters for up to 10 people and has the privacy and all mod-cons necessary to have a successful meeting: projector and screen and an area to prepare refreshments during breaks.

Our games room is ideal to settle a few scores, or, if you're the sporty type, well planned, clearly marked hiking trails, (bring a pair of sturdy boots, sunscreen and a hat) is a definite must. Mountain biking is an excellent way to explore the area and burn off a few extra calories. Relatively easy 4x4 trails are also available to test your driving skills and your vehicle's ability.

Many archaeological sites and historic ruins dot the area and visits can be arranged. Buffelsdrift's residents are very proud of our over a thousand year old Leadwood tree.
